Last night for Kate’s final night of living in the Mission, we ended up going to Amnesia on Valencia, a bar that I always hear good music coming out of and kept meaning to check out, but just never had. Turned out to be a really good band of blues/soul. Nov.22 are coming back for the new album debut. If I wasn’t already going to Yeasayers (yeah!) I would be back again. One of the guys played a bucket, literally. A bucket with a wooden pole and one string, and only the bucket was the painted words, “Soul Tub.” ‘Nuff said.

There are so many great little nooks of music in this city and I love that I have probably scratched the surface of where they are all at. GAMH, Bottom of the Hill, Independent, Bimbos, Fillmore…all great and where the usual rotation of shows I go to are at, but Elbo Room has some great Funk nights (house band on Thursday), Mojitos in NB is so small yet has some pretty great acts (also great Thursday house band), Make-Out Room, Hemlock, Cafe Du Nord…so many choices. Even one night when I was subject to seeing one of the most horrific opening acts ever at The Independent, my friends and I just popped across the street to this TINY bar and where this TINY girl was singing with a guy playing guitar and she had an insanely incredible voice similar to Billie Holiday.
Love this city.
Below is a rather random select. The Rosebuds have been a group I have recently been listening to and like their stuff. They just came out with a new cd, but this select is from their previous album. They will be at The Independent on Nov.24
