Flamingo- Fruit Bats

Last night I saw Bon Iver & Megafaun with Scott Orn, it was simply amazing (as one can imagine).  Interestingly enough my favorite songs were Mike Noyce’s (vocals, baritone guitar, guitar) cover of Nash’s Simple Man & Megafaun/Bon Iver sing along to Come on Ease your Mind.  Can’t complain about the sweet Fillmore poster I can add to my collection.

I met Scott about a year & half ago at a Sea Wolf concert so I was super excited yesterday to burn him a copy of the new album, White Water, White Bloom.  I jumped in his car last night & handed him over copies of Volcano Choir (how fitting when we’re seeing Bon Iver right?), Sea Wolf & to expand his horizons Girls.  While ejecting his other CD he’s like: hey take this it’s the XX (which I have purchased about half of).

Well I pop this sucker into my CD player this morning instead of KGO newstalk 810 & of course enjoy the XX but then suddenly track 12 turns onto this lil ole timey jam and after some SHAZAMING I ‘realized’ (i.e. was told via magic) that it was Fruit Bats.  I really missed the whole Ruminant Band release cause after hearing the title track I was very on the fence…which was a lonely place to be.  Well turns out I like the WHOLE honking album. And you know I should go on my gut since Eric Johnson, main songwriter of Fruit Bats, would most likely make music that I would like when involved with side projects such as The Shins & Vetiver.

On another note I have exited my LoFi binge. I will still dabble & enjoy the shit out of it but with new music from Monsters of Folk, Dodo’s, Pearl Jam, Sea Wolf, Volcano Choir & Girls I have no choice.  Am I forgetting anything?
